Designed by Riki Watanabe in 1979, this clock is Watanabe’s interpretation of the traditional marine clock, a style he had a personal attachment to and collected over the years. Originally designed for interior use, its form reflects his interest in the sea and the character of marine timepieces.
The clock features a stainless steel frame with a stepped finish, a machined aluminum dial, brass decorative screws, and a chamfered acrylic crystal. These details combine traditional marine clock elements with Watanabe’s approach to modern Japanese design.
Two versions are available: one with Arabic numerals and a second hand that closely recalls the traditional marine clock, and another with subdued Roman numerals and no second hand.
