Made from natural diatomaceous earth and shaped using a traditional Japanese plastering technique, the SiO₂ Clock is a distinctive expression of material, craftsmanship, and contemporary design. Designed by Yuichi Nara, the clock was inspired by the abundant diatomaceous earth found in the Noto region of Japan.
 
The SiO₂ logo is carved into the dial using the chemical symbol for silicon dioxide, the main component of diatomaceous earth. Each clock is individually handcrafted using traditional plastering techniques, giving the material its distinctive character.
 
Winner of the Golden Pin Design Award in 2016 and the Good Design Award in 2024, the SiO₂ Clock is equally at home in natural-material interiors and contemporary spaces.
